Ruined RuinediPhone.com?

What the hell happened to ruinediphone.com?  I posted earlier about the petition against Rogers Communications crazy rates and for the last 2 days the protest site has been down.

Bandwidth?  Conspiracy?  David Duchovny?

The iPhone is coming to Canada like a Walrus to a summer picnic.  Everyone can see it coming but the closer it gets the more you need zoologist to understand what the hell is going on.  But at least it's still summer.

It's confounding and frustrating to think that Rogers decision makers, in the quiet and cool of their Toronto towers, would think that they were somehow making good pricing decisions for the new market of iPhone customers.  I can hear the conversation.

Exec 1: "Should we make the pricing plans easy to understand"

Laughing

Exec 1: "Should we make it competitive?"

Exec 2: "With who?  Nobody has the iPhone here but us."

Exec 1: "You're right.  It's the fucking iPhone - people love it, people worship it. They're going to buy this little magic box no matter what.  Besides, we're talking about Canadians here.  They'll take anything up the ass.  I mean it's not like they're not going to buy it just because they can't afford it.  Higher prices mean better vacations and bigger cars."

Exec 2: "Alright, good decision.  Next topic: Penis sizes."

Here are the pricing plans as listed on Rogers website on June 28th.

Rogers iPhone Price List

Now, a new petition has been launched at ruinediphone.com. I signed it. But more importantly, people need to not buy the iPhone when it comes out. That will make a much greater impact than complaining online.

rogers and the iphone

A little late to the party, Rogers.com plays it coy with a teaser add for something that is coming on July 11, 2008. Gee, I wonder what it is. Could it be the iPhone that was announced this morning at Apples WWDC? I have no idea...

Could Rogers Communications be hinting at the possibility that Canada will be getting an iPhone? I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

iphone canada apple ad

Oops, apple.ca stole Roger's thunder and spilled the beans.

Seriously. The news is public and Rogers still has no serious information on their website. No pricing information, no descriptions of the service, not even a hyperlink from this sneaky pete teaser advertisement. Just a silly "something is coming July 11th.", sorry, something big really big is coming.

Come on Rogers. Get in touch. Get excited. Get prepared.

Anyway, we'll probably have to pay $150/month for the service plan with a 5 year contract; that's why they're waiting. I mean it's such a crazy competitive market up here in Canada, what with 2 providers and all.

Snow Leopard, originally uploaded by Shakirafan.

Some friends and I were wondering yesterday what the next major release of Mac OSX would be called.

Puma? Ocelot? Bobcat? Lynx? Lion? Tigon? Liger?

Well it seems the rumour mill is finding some roots. With the next release of OSX (10.6) as mostly a security and stability release, I guess it seems fitting that Apple simply amend the current release name and call it Snow Leopard.

I love presentations... well, good presentations.  I hate bad ones.

I love creating presentations.  I love delivering presentations.  I super-love Keynote from Apple for building presentations. It's a sweet-ass presentation software that's wicked cool.

But the hardest part for me is always the first step.  Picking a font.

For me there is not perfect font for all occasions.  There are however very few truly good presentation fonts.  The best ones must have crisp lines, be easily read from far distances, and have very clean and clear bold and italics.

Then there is the background style.  I'm a minimalist so I prefer solid backgrounds.  I'm not into randomizing my background colours but rather using colour to identify theme or subject or sub-section.  Alternately, I'll sometimes use one solid bg colour to identify markers or new chapters with the content bg colours remaining constant.

And once I get past the font and the colours, the rest will write itself, give or take a few weeks.
